Overview
What this trip is
The Kilimanjaro Machame Route is sometimes called the 'Whiskey Route' because it is considered more challenging and rugged than the Marangu Route. It passes through cloud forest, the dramatic volcanic Shira Plateau, Lava Tower (4,600m), and the famous Barranco Wall while providing beautiful scenery and five distinct ecological zones. Most climbers choose the 7-day version to ensure proper acclimatization before the final midnight push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m).
